Final Day Update

October 30, 2020

Thanks to the 30+ donors who have supported the Virtual Library Fund!  Today is the final day and we are less than $300 away from our goal of $5,000!

Because we are so close to the goal, we’re asking you to share this great initiative with your friends and contacts. If you look at the donor wall, you’ll see gifts in honor of some of the great CPP Library staff and donor’s family members and favorite professors – this is a great way to recognize favorite professors, former students, or co-workers.

Here is the link to donate/share:

Every dollar counts, and will quickly be used for more e-books and hotspots.  Thanks again for your support of the CPP University Library!

Halfway To Our Goal!

October 23, 2020

We are excited to share with you that the library is over half way to our goal of raising $5,000 for hotspots and e-books in the Virtual Library Fund Bronco Launchpad crowdfunding initiative.  Thanks to all of you for your support!  If you would like to share this update with your network, feel free to forward it or share the link https://crowdfund.cpp.edu/library.

Here is some feedback from a current Cal Poly Pomona student on how having access to a hotspot has impacted her ability to succeed in the remote learning environment.  Many thanks to Athena for sharing her story.

Hello my name is Athena Aguilar, a student from Cal Poly Pomona. Being a freshman in college I never really experienced online learning. I had just received a loaner hotspot in the beginning of October. The hotspot has helped me with my education since my family does not have WiFi at home. I don’t have to worry about finding a way to work on my homework or my test making my online experience bearable. In addition, the hotspot guarantees that I am able to take my test with no interruptions. I appreciate my school for providing the hotspot.

A Message from the Dean

October 20, 2020

We are excited to launch the Virtual Library Fund through the CPP crowdfunding platform. This fund is dedicated to purchasing e-books and hot spots in support of remote learning and student success.  Since early 2020, all of us, including the University Library, have had to adapt to using these virtual tools. Despite the challenges of COVID-19, the library continues to serve CPP students and faculty with access to over 2.5 million e-books, technology lending, workshops, virtual meetings, and 24/7 chat.

In August, I joined Cal Poly Pomona's University Library as the new library dean. In my short time here, I have learned so much about our dedicated teaching faculty and our amazing students. Cal Poly Pomona students work so hard to earn their degrees and realize their dreams. Like many of our students, I was a first-generation college student so I know the power and promise of a college degree.

In gratitude to my parents and my teachers, I donated to the Virtual Library Fund to ensure students have access to electronic books and to technology during this time when we are all working and learning remotely. If you haven’t yet, please join us in this effort to ensure we have even more resources to support CPP students!

On behalf of the University Library, I thank all of you who have generously donated to this fund!
