Support CLASS Undergraduate Research
Empowering the Next Generation of Scholars
Your gift supports undergraduate research opportunities in the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS) that provide mentorship, skill-building, and research experiences that prepare our students – many of whom are first generation, low-income, and underrepresented students – for graduate programs.
Why Your Support Matters Now
We have many talented undergraduate students who are eager to engage in transformative research that prepares them for graduate education. Your help supports our students who otherwise would not have access to these experiences.
Your support helps us expand access to:
- Mentored research experiences with dedicated faculty across disciplines
- Graduate school preparation workshops that demystify the application process
- Conference presentation opportunities that build confidence and credentials
- Summer research stipends that allow students to focus on research without financial hardship
Every gift helps us reach more students and deepens the support we provide to those already in our programs. By investing in undergraduate research, you're equipping students with the research skills, faculty mentorship, and confidence they need to pursue advanced degrees and become the next generation of diverse scholars and educators.
The Impact of CLASS Research
Across 12 departments spanning arts, humanities, and social sciences, our undergraduate researchers are making meaningful contributions to their fields. From music to psychology, literature to sociology, CLASS students are tackling complex questions and producing work that matters.
Here are just a few examples:
Public Scholarship: Student research reaches broader audiences through podcasts, public presentations, and community-engaged projects that translate academic work into real-world impact.
Faculty-Mentored Research Projects: Students collaborate with faculty on NSF-funded research, media politics studies, and neuroscience experiments, gaining hands-on experience and co-authoring publications.
Conference Presentations: Students present original research at symposiums and academic conferences, tackling topics from "Classical Music is Dying: Inclusivity, Elitism, and Gen Z" to wealth inequality and mental health disparities.
Published Research: Student scholarship appears in peer-reviewed journals, the REACH Journal, and CPP Bronco Scholar, with topics ranging from literary analysis to social justice issues affecting underrepresented communities.
Independent Research: Capstone projects and independent studies allow students to design and conduct their own research across Clinical, Social, Media, Developmental, and Cognitive research areas.
Carla Cabamongan (Class of 2026), an English major, reflected on her research experience: "I stepped out of my comfort zone and grew as a student...I feel more confident in tackling other research opportunities."
Your support sustains these opportunities so CLASS undergraduate students can continue to become by doing. Together, we can elevate CLASS's leadership in hands-on scholarship, expand high-impact learning, and cultivate the next generation of diverse scholars and educators.
