Communication Department’s Event Planning Class!

You are invited to assist Cal Poly Pomona students in accomplishing a true “learn-by-doing” project while also contributing to a scholarship benefiting communication students in need

Students in the Communication Department’s Event Planning Class (COM 4446) have the opportunity to plan, produce, and execute a major event. This semester, students are planning our annual COM Day event for the Communication Department community at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Bronco Student Center. 

 This fall’s event features industry panels, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world careers. It connects communication students directly with professionals and alumni who can help shape their future paths.

 In the spirit of Cal Poly Pomona’s “learn-by-doing” philosophy, the course affords students the opportunity to learn about concepts and theories relating to event planning while also gaining hands-on experience with budgeting, fundraising, operations, scheduling, program management, hospitality, volunteerism, and philanthropy. The course is designed to help prepare students for careers in public relations, communications, multimedia journalism, hospitality, philanthropy, and many more.

Funds raised by the event will benefit communication students for years to come. Proceeds from the event will help fund The Legacy Scholarship for communication students.

*A donation at this level funds an entire scholarship for a Cal Poly Pomona communication student.
