In Memory of Joseph Harry Hannibal

IMG_5803.JPGJoseph Harry Hannibal peacefully left this world surrounded by his friends and family on the night of October 13, 2024. Born on May 4, 1945 in New York City to Mayme Anderson Hannibal and Harry Hannibal.

Joe's unwavering commitment to the arts and education was truly inspiring. A proud graduate of Berry Academy, Hiawassee College, Austin Peay University, and earning his final PhD and MFA from the university of Tennessee.

His teaching career expanded 56 years, sharing his talents to various institutions, University of Wisconsin – Stout, London Central Saint Martin, school of arts, however, he dedicated his most significant portion of his career to Cal Poly Pomona where he serves as the Chair of the Art Department, and later on as head of the painting and photography program. While at Cal Poly Pomona, he was a guest professor at Exeter College/University of Plymouth in England.

Beyond being a professor, Joe was a mentor and guide of wisdom for his students, family, and especially for his beloved children, Sophia and Hadrian Hannibal, as well as his wife, Luisa Cohrs - Hannibal.

While his passing brings great sadness to all, Joe’s love, and enthusiasm for life will forever resonate in those he has touched. Though he has grown his wings and taken flight, his spirit will forever watch over, influence, and stay in our hearts. Let us cherish all our magical memories, filled with love, passion, laughter and remember the beauty he brought into this world.
