Cal Poly Pomona Equestrian Team

The Equestrian Team is a class and club open to all students of any discipline and level!  We welcome beginners to advanced riders to compete in equitation hunter (flat and fences) and Western disciplines.  We build lifetime knowledge of the showing world and the unique aspects of Equine life. Our team is dedicated to making horsemanship and showing more affordable and accessible to everyone.

Our team is focused on competing and completing a successful show circuit. This means our competitors are our main priority. Showing members will be chosen based on several factors: skill being a high priority as well as dedication and consistency. Which means not everyone is guaranteed to compete their first year.

Competitions:

IHSA is different from other shows due to the fact that riders draw a random horse from a pool before their class and ride without warmup.

Like most sports, this team is a huge time commitment. Riding on this team is determined by several factors and we try to make it as fair as possible, but the more time you devote to the team the more likely you are to ride.

What makes our team different?

Our coaches teach you to compete and show, as well as riding techniques. We learn how to "catch ride", which is an interesting form of showing that consists of picking a random horse and riding it for the first time in the show ring without any prior practice on that horse. This builds amazing horsemanship skills that would otherwise not be gained by riding the same horse every show. This helps members to build skills to be a more consistent and better rider.
