Help CPP Students Travel to Thailand to Teach English

Did you know Cal Poly Pomona English Students travel to Thailand to teach English? Yes, current Broncos are international!

Students spend three weeks at Rajamangala University of Technology, Thanyaburi (RMUTT), about an hour away from Bangkok. The trip provides students with an internship in situ - in a setting where ESL teachers with degrees from American universities are in high demand but currently fairly low supply. The students will then apply these skills in the classrooms for General English and English for International Communication at the RMUTT under the mentorship of local teachers.

In the CPP spirit of Learn by Doing, our students have these classroom experiences:

  1. They are paired with local professors of English, who serve as their mentors;
  2. They observe and assist in classes;
  3. They progress to independent teaching; and
  4. They are fully immersed by living on the RMUTT campus.

In addition, students have opportunities to attend cultural trips to:

  1. Pattaya (beach, botanical gardens, elephants)
  2. The Grand Palace in Bangkok
  3.  Ayatthuya, the historical Capital of Thailand
  4.  The Wat Pho Temple
  5.  The Future Park (an enormous mall)
  6.  The Chatukchak Weekend Market in Bangkok
  7.  Local individual trips - shopping, food, museums, etc.

About the EML Department

An integrated department of literature, linguistics and languages, EML trains students in the academic disciplines dealing with language itself, the medium of all social and cultural life. Our literature programs feature English and American traditions, Spanish and Latin American traditions, and world traditions. Our modern languages programs include Chinese, French, German, and Spanish. We also offer programs in English Composition, English Education, and TESOL. Students learn to read analytically, write clearly, operate trans-linguistically in an interconnected world, think critically about linguistic and literary phenomena, and argue effectively. Graduates of our B.A. programs go on to careers in fields like law, management, translation/interpretation, marketing, digital media, teaching, and many others. Our M.A. program places students in Ph.D. programs nationwide.

Graduates of the English and Modern Languages Department enjoy successful and fulfilling careers in a variety of fields. Here is a list of only a few of our proud Broncos: https://www.cpp.edu/class/english-modern-languages/students/alumni.shtml
