Lights, Camera, Action: W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horses!

Established in 1925 by W.K. Kellogg, the Arabian Horse Ranch in Pomona has been integral to the traditions and history of Cal Poly Pomona for close to a century. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Mr. Kellogg purchased eleven horses in March 1925. Shortly after in May 1925, he purchased 377 acres in Pomona which would eventually become Cal Poly Pomona.

However, little did Mr. Kellogg know that his passion for the Arabian horse would lead to a side-career in Hollywood! Some of the notable appearances of a Kellogg horse in film include:

Jadaan

“Son of the Sheik” (1926)

King John

“The Crusades” (1935), “Lives of a Bengal Lancer” (1935), “The Garden of Allah” (1936), and “Suez” (1938). King John was also the model for Prince Charming’s horse in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937)

These celebrity horses would regularly socialize with famous actors such as Will Rogers, Rudolph Valentino, Marlene Dietrich, Gary Cooper, Tyrone Power, and Loretta Young.

Given our pending centennial for the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center, we figured it was time to once again bring a little bit of Hollywood back to Pomona! For this year’s campaign, we are seeking support to fund video and other marketing materials to prepare for our upcoming 100-year anniversary.

A gift of any size to the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center Excellence Fund will assist us in celebrating the past while we simultaneously look to the future.

Thank you for considering becoming a “producer” for the Greatest Show on Dirt: the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horses!
