Building Bridges and Futures: Cal Poly Pomona Steel Bridge Team

The Cal Poly Pomona Steel Bridge Team is composed of dedicated undergraduate engineering students who collaborate to design, fabricate, and construct a one-tenth-scale model steel bridge. Our project not only incorporates technical knowledge but also exemplifies Cal Poly Pomona’s "Learn by Doing" philosophy, blending theory with hands-on experience.

Teams are tasked with designing, fabricating, and constructing a 1/10 scale steel bridge that adheres to AISC's guidelines. Success in the competition is measured by a team's performance across several key categories, including construction speed, bridge weight, stiffness, aesthetics, cost-efficiency in construction, and overall structural performance.

Through their involvement with the Steel Bridge team, students gain invaluable experience working as a cohesive team while applying their classroom knowledge to develop award-winning bridge designs.

In recent years, our team has achieved remarkable success, placing 1st at Regionals and 4th at Nationals during the 2020-2021 Student Steel Bridge Competition—an unprecedented milestone in Cal Poly Pomona’s history. This past year, we competed in Hawaii for Regionals and at the National Competition in Louisiana, where we once again delivered an outstanding performance, reinforcing our position as a top-tier team.

We Need Your Help to Continue Our Success

As we prepare for the upcoming competitions, we aim to build on our success and further elevate the legacy of the CPP Steel Bridge Team. However, this journey comes with significant financial challenges. The rising costs of essential materials, particularly steel, combined with travel expenses, require the continued support of generous donors like you.

Your contribution will help us cover the costs of vital resources such as steel, shop drawings, fasteners, connections, laboratory equipment, and travel expenses. These materials and supplies are crucial for us to design and construct a world-class steel bridge, enabling us to compete at our best in both regional and national competitions.

We are incredibly proud of the progress our team has made and remain committed to pushing the boundaries of engineering excellence. Every dollar donated brings us closer to achieving our goal of continued success on the national stage.

If you would like to join us on this exciting journey and help us build something extraordinary, please consider pledging your support. Together, we can leave a lasting legacy for Cal Poly Pomona and ensure our team's continued triumphs in the years to come.

A Message from Our 2024 Project Manager

To our alumni, family, friends, and future donors,

As Project Manager for the 2024-2025 CPP Steel Bridge Team, we have the incredible opportunity to lead a motivated, enthusiastic, and hard-working group of officers and general members. Our commitment to excellence has consistently earned our team top regional and national rankings, a true testament to our dedication, resilience, and passion.

The American Institute of Steel Construction released the new competition rules in early September, and the team has been dedicating numerous hours through all aspects of the process to continue our success. However, none of this would be possible without you, our sponsors!

We will be competing in regionals in early April at Cal Poly Pomona, as well as in nationals at Iowa State University! With the new rules this year we are faced with heightened expenses for travel to Iowa, materials, and tools. The support we have received from donors like you in the past has been instrumental in helping us achieve our goals, and we once again find ourselves in need of your generosity to make winning a reality. By supporting CPP Steel Bridge, your help also provides us with incomparable real-world engineering experiences that we cannot get in the traditional classroom setting.

Our bridge design and construction team, along with our dedicated members, form a winning team and all we ask is for the opportunity to show our worth! We invite you to join us on this momentous journey by donating to our team. Your support not only empowers us to excel in our immediate goals but also ensures the growth of our skills and knowledge, which will have a long-lasting impact on our professional careers.

Thank you so much for being a crucial part of our journey towards success. We look forward to making you proud and representing excellence in everything we do!

Best,

Maysa Barakat
