Nikkei Student Union 15th Annual Culture Night

Nikkei Student UnionThe Nikkei Student Union (NSU) is a Japanese American social cultural club at California Polytechnic State University, Pomona. Founded in 2008, NSU is a non-discriminatory organization that exists to unite the general community and welcome those with common interests and different backgrounds, while preserving the history and advancing the culture of Japanese Americans. Our best efforts focus on encouraging appreciation and understanding of cultural values, and respecting and remembering historical events. We are a member of the Asian and Pacific Islander Student Center as well as the Multicultural Council which are both established at Cal Poly Pomona. We also partner with the Intercollegiate Nikkei Council (INC), an organization that upholds the value of bringing and connecting other Japanese American collegiate groups, including those from UCLA, USC, UC Irvine, CSU Fullerton, UC San Diego, and more. Such endeavors include collaborating amongst each other through joint events, and contributing to the growth of a larger community by creating opportunities for constructive networking and newly profound bonds

15th Annual Culture Night 

Culture Night, as it relates to the Nikkei Student Union is a night where an individual chapter of NSU showcases their talents and celebrates Japanese American culture through traditional, contemporary, and modern dance, Kendo & Iaido, Taiko (traditional Japanese drumming), and a stage play representing the issues of which the Japanese American community faces.

Culture Nights are also advertised on campus in an attempt to increase campus involvement for the club. The audiences of Culture Night are diverse with attending members of other NSU chapters or INC schools, other student organizations, relatives, and our local community members.
