Our Story
As advisors in the CLASS Student Success Center, we meet many talented and dedicated students who hesitate to participate in their commencement ceremony simply because they cannot afford the cap and gown. Candid conversations with our students shed light on a significant financial barrier hindering their ability to celebrate their achievements. It became clear that we needed to take action. Driven by a deep commitment to our students' success and well-being, we recognized the urgent need to address this issue. This realization ignited the spark that led to our initiative to provide cap and gown grants, ensuring students should not have to forgo their graduation experience due to financial constraints.
About the Grant
The Cap and Gown Grant program aims to support graduating seniors within the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences who are in financial need, with funding for their cap and gown to participate in the Spring 2024 commencement ceremony. One undergraduate student from each of our twelve departments will be selected, and we hope to raise more funding to offer this opportunity to more students.
