You are invited to assist Cal Poly Pomona students successfully accomplish a true “learn-by-doing” project while also contributing to a scholarship to benefit deserving Communication majors.
Students in Cal Poly’s Events Planning class (COM 4446) learn about the logistics of special events planning through both academic instruction and a “learn-by-doing” education in the planning, production and execution of a major event
That event is Alumni Night for Communications graduates on Friday, Nov. 18, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Claremont.
In the spirit of Cal Poly’s “learn-by-doing” philosophy, the course affords students the opportunity to learn and experience hands-on budgeting, fundraising, operations, event scheduling, program management, hospitality, volunteerism and philanthropy. It is intended to help prepare students for a career in public relations, communications, multimedia journalism, hospitality and more.
Funds raised by the event will benefit Communication students for many years to come. Proceeds from the event will go to help fund the Legacy Scholarship for Communication majors.
Just as importantly, the event allows Communication alumni to reconnect and it gives students the chance to network with graduates of Cal Poly’s Communications program and establish connections that could lead to future career opportunities.

College students spend about $10 a day on lunch. That adds up in a hurry. Every $10 donation goes to support the Legacy Scholarship to offset such costs for a Communication Department student.
Cal Poly Pomona is primarily a commuter school. With gas prices currently increasing, scholarship awardees can be relieved of this extra level of stress.
Ticket prices for Alumni Night are $40. All 24 students in the Event Planning (COM 4446) class are required to purchase a ticket to the event. Consider helping our students attend the event they’ve been planning all semester without the added financial burden.
Students typically spend around $75 a week on groceries. Donations support the Legacy Scholarship, which awardees could use to make healthy home-cooked meals instead of fast-food takeout.
Not only is college tuition pricey, but textbooks and school supplies are, too. Students often must pay for additional programs which align with CPP’s learn-by-doing approach.
Cal Poly Pomona is primarily a commuter school, and parking permits are required to park on campus. Donating at this level would help a student all semester long.

Today, everything revolves around being online. Providing a laptop for a student ensures they’ll be able to keep up with their schoolwork by having a reliable source.
