Make an Impact! Make a Difference! Support the Next Generation of STEM Professionals!

In 2022, WiSE merged with MEP to provide a joint effort in supporting students across three colleges in Engineering, Science, and Agriculture. This academic year, we welcomed the first cohort of first-year and transfer students into MEP-WiSE!

Established in 1982, Maximizing Engineering Potential (MEP) aspires to be a premier center of excellence for preparing diverse communities of students for academic, professional, and leadership opportunities in a global society. While serving all students, MEP continues to recruit and prepare historically under-represented minority, women, low-income, first-generation students for the engineering workforce. MEP collaborates with engineering industry, federal/state agencies, cultural affinity societies: American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES); National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE); Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE); Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE); and Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) was established in 2021 as part of the Cal Poly Pomona STEM Success Network. Originally the Women in Engineering (WE) program, WiSE provides resources and support services for students to succeed in STEM, focusing on retention efforts and environment enhancement programs. WiSE is dedicated to not only creating a supportive community for our current STEM students, but also strives to inspire students to consider STEM as a possible career.

Request for SupportWith over 80% of students receiving need-based aid—an average financial package of $10,663—MEP-WiSE seeks support to help students defray tuition costs, textbooks, meals, school supplies. Funds will be used to provide Bronco Bucks (money deposited into the student’s ID card) and stipends (money provided to students in recognition of academic progress and merit). We hope to provide up to 300 students with support.

The gift that is given (modest or lofty) says so much about your compassion . . . it sends an inspiring message to our students that you care. Thank you!

Engineers continue to change the world in which we live in. Where innovative ideas are at the heart of what engineers do, it is vitally important that our engineering workforce reflects the demographics of the society in which these ideas become reality. Lifting individuals out of poverty is the key to economic growth. Serving over 2,000 engineering students, MEP-WiSE moves economically disadvantaged students upward in the socio-economic strata.
