The Cal Poly Pomona Steel Bridge Team consists of undergraduate engineering students who work together to plan, design, fabricate and construct a one-tenth model steel bridge. Once our team has created the final product, we will compete on a regional and national level. Throughout the years we have shown amazing results and have placed 1st in Regionals and 4th in Nationals during the 2020-2021 Student Steel Bridge Competition, a milestone never achieved in Cal Poly Pomona’s history.
With the upcoming term, our team plans to strive to greater heights and needs support more than ever. If you would like to support us on this momentous journey, please consider pledging your support!
Why Your Help Matters!
Every year the Cal Poly Pomona Steel Bridge Team must compete in the Student Steel Bridge Competition and have shown amazing results. An accomplishment that is not possible without the support from our donors. Our team continues to excel every year but the prices of steel also continue to increase. An essential material that can cost our team thousands of dollars to obtain. With your support, it will help us gain steel, shop drawings, nuts and screws, professionally-made connections, and lab equipment. These essential materials will allow us to create an amazing steel bridge that will help us reach our goal of winning nationals. If you would like to support us on this journey please consider donating. With every dollar donated we get closer to our goal.
Project Manager's Message
To our alumni, family, and friends,
Hope all is well and hope that everyone will enjoy the following holidays to come. My name is Emelisa Vasquez, this year’s project manager for Cal Poly Pomona Steel Bridge.
Last year, even though we faced obstacles due to the pandemic, CPP Steel Bridge achieved great accomplishments. With the opportunity to compete in last year’s AISC’s Steel Bridge Competition, we placed 1st in the regional competition and 4th in the national competition. This would have never been achieved without the help of the staff involved to get us back into the fabrication lab, sponsors, and donors who were able to support student success.
As we close one chapter, a new one is opened with new AISC 2022 rules, hopes, and opportunities for CPP Steel Bridge to continue showing a team that contains resilient and determined students to continue to prepare for the year 2022 competition and for success.
This year we are working hard to come back to the fabrication lab with the necessary safety precautions. Not only will access to the fabrication lab help us with the development of our project, but access will also give us the opportunity to get new students to get involved and learn more about major components within the AISC Student Steel Bridge competition: Design, fabrication, and construction. Holding fabrication training and construction practices allows for new students to network, collaborate as a team, and enrich their technical backgrounds. As the school is working to fully open up, we are determined to get new members involved by keeping previous traditions while creating new ways to get students involved.
Cal Poly Pomona Steel Bridge remains resilient and determined to offer the same value to both our members and partners. Please consider becoming a donor and supporting student success!
