Our Crowdfunding Groups
BLADE is a high-altitude balloon university project with an emphasis in conducting scientific investigations. This is a student-led project at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona that operates under the Bronco Space program. Over the last year, BLADE was able to conduct its first successful mission. The objective of this mission was to collect and analyze cosmic radiation data in our atmosphere by utilizing a cosmic watch.
In addition to being a high-altitude balloon project, BLADE is also a developmental project that provides engineering students who have minimal engineering experience with the opportunity to gain relevant skills in engineering, teamwork, and leadership. Each group of students are comprised of people from varying backgrounds and majors to enhance and promote diversity within the program. The BLADE program is set up as an educational platform to guide these young engineering students through a complete series of engineering processes that emulate industry practices. Students will give presentations for three major design reviews and will be provided with advice and guidance for the development, testing, and integration of their balloon satellites. The design process is also supplemented through the implementation of many technical workshops that teach students a wide variety of skills including structural design, hardware design, software development, electronic assembly, and clean environment integration.
The funding acquired from this tier will help our teams purchase equipment such as 3D printer filament, hardware, power supplies, and other significant items. It will also, allow BLADE to purchase equipment to teach students with during workshops and other pertinent supplies necessary for the program.
