The Cal Poly Pomona Student Chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics, Sophie's Circle, is teaming up with the Kappa Mu Epsilon - Math Honorary of CPP, and students from Pomona College. Last semester, the event had to be cancelled due to COVID-19, but Sophie's Circle has decided to hold the event virtually.
The event is aimed towards supporting underrepresented middle school and high school students, especially young girls, with their interest in mathematics and other related fields and encouraging them to pursue such interests. The volunteers will be leading activities involving mathematical concepts to demonstrate how mathematics is relevant to the world outside of regular classroom problems. We hope to be able to ship students an event t-shirt and math-related book.
We want every participant to receive a t-shirt. This provides everyone with an event shirt!
Student attendees will be able to be shipped at least one book to further encourage them to pursue mathematics.
Each volunteer will be spending half of their daytime hours running the event to make sure everyone has a good time! This helps pay for two participants' shipping fees, books, and t-shirts.
We estimate there to be around 200 attendees (volunteers, panelists, and student participants) at this event so, with your contribution, we can work on getting everything set up nicely so everything runs smoothly.
Before the semester conversion, graduate classes were the 500 level classes so with this donation, we took a giant leap towards our goal.
With your donation, we will have reached one-fifth of our goal which means we only need 4 more donors at this level!
We're nearly funded for each participant to get shipped a book and t-shirt!
