The Poly Post Mobile App

Cal Poly Pomona’s student-run publication The Poly Post is partnering with Cal Poly Pomona Foundation for a crowdfunding project to raise $8,500 to launch a Poly Post mobile app this academic year. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, creating a free and easily accessible mobile app is crucial in helping maintain the CPP community and in keeping students informed and engaged.

The challenges of this pandemic has also resulted in a decline in ad revenue. Thus, this campaign will be critical in supporting upfront consultancy costs, developer accounts, and an app builder; any remaining funds will be used to support student staff stipends and camera drones.

The Poly Post recognizes and appreciates your support. With your generosity, we can improve our ability to carry out our roles as student journalists for our campus community.

Cal Poly Pomona’s student-run newspaper since 1940, The Poly Post provides coverage of the campus and local community to a student body of more than 27,000 and about 2,400 faculty and staff members. The Poly Post is an independent student-run publication housed within the Communication Department and overseen by a business manager and faculty adviser. It is supported primarily by advertising revenue and institutional funds. Each semester, a staff of student journalists provides news to the campus community through print and the web every Tuesday.

The Poly Post is one of the most diverse student media newsrooms in the country, and its current staff includes 1 editor in chief, 1 managing editor, 2 section editors, 1 copyeditor, a web editor, photo editor, social media editor, 2 graphic designers, and approximately 40 staff writers. In addition to serving as a valuable news source for the university, The Poly Post is a learning lab for students in the fields of print journalism, photojournalism and multimedia journalism. This follows the university’s polytechnic approach, “learn by doing.” The Poly Post has earned several collegiate journalism awards, including awards from the California College Media Association and has been designated a PolyX (signature polytechnic experience) course for its exceptional approach to hands-on learning.

"I am continuously impressed at the care, resilience and passion our writers and editors display. Witnessing the boldness that our newsroom exhibits in its pursuit of informing the community makes me confident in the future of the industry and has strengthened my own professional development."            — Nicolas Hernandez, Copy Editor

“Being a part of The Poly Post has shaped me as a writer and truly opened my eyes to the value of storytelling. I have learned invaluable communication and life skills — paving the way for a future career in news.”   — Lauren Muttram, Staff Writer

"The Poly Post has been a learning experience and has prepared me for an actual newsroom. With great editors on board, I never stop learning, and I can’t wait to take everything I learn into my professional career."                       — Jose Herrera, Staff Writer

“The Poly Post has given me the chance to get familiar with my field while pursuing my academic goals. Through The Poly Post, I learned to be professional, honest and accurate with my reporting in order to keep my fellow Broncos informed.”    — Blanca Gonzalez, Staff Writer

“Writing for The Poly Post has been an incredible and eye-opening experience. I’ve met so many nice people and had the opportunity to expand my creative voice. Writing for the Post and co-hosting the paper's podcast has been the highlight of my college career.”                         — Andy Foreman, Staff Writer
