2020-2021 Cal Poly Pomona Steel Bridge
Steel Bridge has been working diligently since this summer, our design leads have spent over 400 hours designing on bridge for the new competition year! Right now, as we await confirmation for a physical competition, we have been working on our Supplemental competition that consists of three categories: design, analysis, and construction sequence. As well as a presentation video that will cover all the information from the report. We plan on focusing on both the physical and supplemental competition while we prepare for the fabrication of the new bridge.
2020-2021 Cal Poly Pomona ASCE
The Cal Poly Pomona American Society of Civil Engineers (CPP ASCE) Student Chapter helps students by providing essential value to our members and partners by opening up opportunities for networking, socializing, and professional growth. ASCE Student Organization participation instills a commitment by providing a link between practice and education. In addition, the organization allows students to socialize with professors in and out of the classroom settings which is an important aspect of student development.
2020-2021 Cal Poly Pomona Geowall
GeoWall is working on developing everyone’s skills in the geotechnical field. Aspects like the seed analysis. In addition to teaching the fundamentals of building a retaining wall, we are working on analyzing the soil used. Rules for the competition will be sent in October. After rules are sent, design begins.
2020-2021 Cal Poly Pomona Concrete Canoe
This year, the team is collaborating virtually to design a prototype canoe that can be constructed by a future team. We have decided to go with a theme called Koi Poly which will tell the story of a koi fish heading upstream to become a dragon. The newest component of the competition this year is a submittal called "Enhanced Focus Areas" which serve the purpose of adding value to the Technical Proposal. Unlike previous years, the scoring will be divided into Technical Proposal (35%), Enhanced Focus Areas (30%), Technical Presentation (25%), and On-Site Competition (10% if held). We plan on uniting with former concrete canoe team members to support us with the competition's theme of "Persistence in the Face of Adversity".
