The 2019-2020 Cal Poly Transportation Senior Project Team is looking for sponsors to help offset the cost of presentation materials, off-campus travelling, and other expenses for the remainder of the year. A group of 33 students, co-advised by Senior Engineers from Caltrans District 8, is tasked to prepare a Project Study Report (PSR) on a real-life highway project.
Project Description
The City of San Bernardino and Caltrans District 8 are proposing two (2) interchange projects near the Cal State San Bernardino (CSUSB) campus. The first location consists of proposed improvements to the existing Palm/Kendall interchange on the I-215 Freeway. The second location proposes the construction of a new interchange extending Campus Parkway to the I-215. These locations require a comprehensive review of the current and proposed interchanges and offers students the opportunity to propose innovative solutions to a challenging area. The team is currently looking for ways to balance local needs with the operation of the interstate. Both project locations will require students to conduct various studies including Advanced Planning Studies, Traffic Analysis, Geometric Design, Construction Staging, Environmental Impact Study, and Cost Benefit Analysis. These studies cover a wide range of the core courses related to gaining a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Transportation. In addition, the senior project will immerse the students in a real-world scenario by having the team follow a Caltrans project development process which addresses contemporary transportation issues including: technical aspects of interchange improvements, formulation of project purpose and need, project scheduling, team building strategies, and public speaking techniques.
Impact and Goals
Our senior project team students are currently researching, analyzing, and identifying possible interchange designs during this year-long study. We are excited to present the completed project, our findings, and our recommendations for improving the City of San Bernardino and the surrounding area. The goal with our project is to maximize the learning experience of our team members and instill a passion that will carry throughout their careers following graduation. We believe that by raising this money, our team can focus our attention to completing a distinct project that will help us advance to the College of Engineering Finals in April. With your contribution, our team will continue to excel our efforts made throughout the school year and are thankful for your generosity in helping the next generation of Civil Engineers!
Help us score a perfect TEN on our presentations with your donations.
This will cover the cost of 1 of 7 carpools for 1 of 4 off-campus presentations. But also, why not donate in honor of the year with terrible optometry jokes?
By donating 50, you are covering printing costs for both teams! THANK YOU.
The teams are having a drone fly over two project locations; each flight is estimated to be about $100. Help us fly the drone!
At this level, you are completely funding 1 of the 33 students. THANK YOU! - The chosen one
Did you know: We would only need 5 donors at this level to fully fund all 33 of us? That's truly amazing.
