We are Cal Poly Pomona’s Concrete Canoe team, a student-led organization that works as a collaborative team to compete in the nation’s biggest regional conference, the Pacific Southwest Conference (PSWC). This competition consists of four parts: Paddling (25%), Oral Presentation (25%), Technical Paper (25%), and Final Product (25%). In the previous years, our design teams have been placed in both the regional and national conferences. Within the past decade, we have been placed within the top ten at PSWC nine times and we have competed in nationals five times. We are gradually and consistently improving. In 2018, our canoe El Dorado took 6th place in the regional conference, where our final product presentation and women’s slalom race was placed within the top five teams. In 2019, our team placed within the top ten universities at PSWC while being celebrated for our performance in the design paper, final products, and our participation in the sprint and slalom competitions. We are aiming to be the top team in PSWC 2020, so we can compete in nationals once again! Support from our donors is appreciated as it helps us relay to the top.
Since we are a non-profit, student-run organization, 100% of our budget comes from gifts and donations. We are looking for donations that will allow us to purchase construction materials, quality mix materials, tools, safety supplies, transportation fees, and more. We hope that you will consider donating for our canoe project as we make the push to go to nationals in 2020.
