Last year, the Poly Pantry served 1,227 students during 4,320 visits and distributed more than 43,000 perishable and non-perishable food and hygiene supplies.
In a recent survey conducted by the Poly Pantry, 22 percent of pantry visitors who responded indicated that they experienced 'reduced hours and income' as a result of COVID-19. Among the prominent responses for COVID-19 pandemic impacting their access to basic needs, 18 percent of participants 'Lost a job' and 14 percent experienced a 'decreased access to consistent and reliable food supply."
COVID-19 also presents a new challenge to welcoming students into the Poly Pantry, but it is clear that the need for our services is more critical than ever. Poly Pantry 2 Go provides a no contact, curbside pickup service. Students are empowered to visit weekly and to select a pre-packaged grocery bag filled with food that meets their dietary needs as well as personal hygiene products that help them stay safe and healthy.
It costs us about $20 to create one bag of food and personal hygiene items which would cover a student for one week.
Many of us may remember saving on grocery expenses in November by visiting extended family and sharing expenses, but that may not be possible for students who remain separated from their family to keep them safe. A gift at this level could keep a student from going without basic needs this November.
Personal hygiene kits at the PolyPantry included items like toiletries, feminine hygiene products, bath soap, and shampoo. These kits cost us about $10 to assemble. So a gift at this level could provide such items to 20 students!
Did you know that a group of horses is called a TEAM when they're all pulling a load together? A gift of at this level covers the food and essentials for 25 Broncos. That's quite a load!
We can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but the health and economic effects of COVID-19 are likely spill into next semester and beyond. A gift at this level makes sure 3 students have everything they need from start to finish this Spring Semester.
We create about 120 bags of groceries to distribute to students every week. A gift at this level would cover a week of groceries for ALL of the students we typically serve!
